Nebraska Golden Sower and Red Carpet Readers Information

The Golden Sower Award is Nebraska's "Children's Choice" book award.
Click here to visit the Golden Sower website.

Each year, there are 10 Primary Nominees (grades K-3) and 10 Intermediate Nominees (grades 4-6).  Students who read at least 4 of the 10 nominees at their level by April 1 may vote for their favorite.  Voting at Doniphan-Trumbull takes place in April in the library.

  • Students in grades K-3 will have all 10 nominees read to them by the library staff and have the opportunity to vote for their favorite in April.
  • Students in grades 4, 5, and 6 read the books independently if they choose to participate.  (Students in grade 3, with parent permission and/or teacher recommendation, may choose to read the books on the Intermediate Nominee list as well.)
Students in grades 3, 4, 5, and 6 will need to take an online 10-14 multiple-choice question test with 80% accuracy for each of the books they choose to read.  Please contact Ms. Sears when you are ready to take your quiz.  Quizzes will be taken during media time.  If students score below an 80%, they will be allowed to re-take the test.  They will not be allowed to take the test more than twice.

Read 4 books:  You earn a Golden Sower wrist band, participation in the Red Carpet Readers celebration night, and are invited to the voting party in April!

Read all 10 books:  You earn lunch with Ms. Sears!  If you finish before March 1st, you earn a $5.00 Book Fair certificate.

Good Luck and Happy Reading!
